Artist's Statement

Using the Body as a vehicle, my work explores the balance between presence and absence, fragment and whole. Exploiting the possibilities of metal casting and construction, the recent pieces push the permanency of the metal medium to a point of vulnerability, creating organic, shell-like structures of charged negative space. Suggesting the figure, these pieces balance between the abstract nature of their pattern and the defined boundary of their impression. There is a constant dialogue in this process, pushing and pulling the defiant medium out against the form that defines it, searching for a relevant and meaningful composition. This practice is about attempting to bring an assemblage approach into the tradition of metal casting where this innovative process allows for an altered type of representation.
